The Cattle Market, c.1894

Original description by George Birch in 1894

Caledonian Road, King's Cross, is an immense emporium for the sale of sheep, cows, pigs, and calves. The market days are Mondays and Thursdays, and great numbers of animals are exhibited for sale, especially on Mondays, when they somtimes number over 15,700. In the centre of the market is a clock tower, around which are the offices of the clerk and other officials.

Other observations

Built by the city of London Corporation in 1855 (see wikipedia). Today only the clock tower remains in what is now Caledonian Park.
