How to remove annoying green shading from Excel imported data tables

If you import data into Excel, using for example a CSV file, it gets automatically formatted with green shading as shown above.

This shading is not caused by conditional formatting, nor by cell styles, nor by fill explicitly applied to cells. It cannot be removed by Clearing the formatting of the cells. It cannot be removed by disconnecting the sheet from its original data source.

This green sh*t is caused by this FORMAT AS TABLE thing in the HOME part of the ribbon:-

Select any cell in the offending table before clicking on FORMAT AS TABLE. On my version of Excel, as you can see above, there is no CLEAR button, and no empty table style top left. Hence you cannot use this drop down to remove the table formatting. Yours might differ: use the CLEAR button or empty style if it is there.

If however you look at TABLE STYLES in the DESIGN tab of the ribbon, you'll see this:-

If you click the scroll up button you should find the empty table style at top left . Click on that and you're done.
